Killed in action 5 May 1915. Born in Yarm and enlisted at Bradford. Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium

Yarm1914 believe that Thomas was born in 1878 in Yarm and lived in High Church Wynd with his parents Henry 37 a joiner born in Yarm and Mary A 32 from Langton, North yorkshire, his sisters Margaret E 9 and Mary 2 and his brothers James 7 and Frank 5. By 1881 he had another brother Henry and his Uncle Thomas described as a pauper was liing with them. Bt 1891 the family had moved to 34 Montgommery Street in Manningham, a district of Bradford. James and his immediate brothers and sisters worked in the local wool industry, James was a wool washer, Frank worked in teh dyehouse, Mary A was a spinner and Thomas was a bobbin layer. Thomas had three additional brothers, William aged 7, John aged 5 and George aged 2.By 1901 the family had divided, Henry and Mary a had moved to 39 Arthington Street in Bradford with Henry now 19 and working as a labourer in a woolen mill, William 17 a plasters apprentice, George 12 a woolen operative and joined by a boarder, Clara Dewhirst 24 from Halifax and also a woolen operative. Thomas is not recorded as being in the house at teh time of the census. However in 1911 we find him married to Clara, working as a drawer in, and living in 39 Arthington Street with his parents, brother William and a son Thomas aged 3 and working as a wool comber. In his war records Clara is described as his next of kin.
